Marvel’s latest teaser image for X-Men: Second Coming (written by Christopher Yost and Craig Kyle, with art by David Finch) is below. The promo by artist Daniel Acuna reveals a gathering of X-Men members past and present. Second Coming kicks off on March 31, and will also be available with a cover by Adi Granov.
Available now is Uncanny X-Men #521 with the nifty Greg Land cover showing everyone’s favourite Master of Magnetism, Magneto. He also seems to be a master of yoga.
It looks like the team at Sequart and Respect Films have been busy. Their Grant Morrison doco is released this year and I’m looking forward to it. It’s quite the coup really. Their web series The Third Age looks great, and I really should get around to watching more episodes. They also have an upcoming feature on a few legendary X-Men creators. This is how it’s described:
Also in association with Sequart, Respect Films is producing a documentary history of the X-Men comics franchise, from its origins in the 60s to its rise to popularity in the 70s and 80s, ending with recent reinventions by Joss Whedon and Grant Morrison. The documentary will feature exclusive interviews with many of the series’ most important creators, including a roundtable reuniting writers Chris Claremont, Louise Simonson and editor Ann Nocenti. Former Marvel Editor-in-Chief Jim Shooter, Art Adams and comics historian/Marvel Archivist Peter Sanderson will also appear. This project is being shot over the course of 2009, and will be released in 2010.
With the success of the Spider-Woman motion comic, it’s now the X-Men’s turn. From what I’ve seen it’s pretty impressive. Details below.

Below is the J. Scott Campbell cover to Amazing Spider-Man #601 which is released on August 9 and is the kick-off of Mary Jane Month. The issue is written by Mark Waid and also includes a 6 page story written by Brian Bendis with art by Joe Quesada. That’s special. That Astonishing X-Men sure is one pretty series. The final issue of its Ghost Boxes story arc by writer Warren Ellis and awesome artist Simone Bianchi hits shelves on June 24. Below are a few random pages.
I remember struggling to catch as much of the glorious 1990s X-Men cartoon each day before heading off to school. It was surprisingly faithful to the comics of the time, and often written by comics scribes. Many people came to be aware of Marvel’s merry mutants due to this show. Now you can see them all over again, as well as the new Wolverine and the X-Men animated series, which is my fave thing on TV, along with the fun Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Press release below.

Here’s 2 interesting teaser images released this week. It appears that the X-Men are getting darker and that Aquaman will finally return to the DCU as a Black Lantern. Stay tuned.
X-Force and Cable are the two bad boys of the X-Men flood of books as of late. Now they’re teaming up as part of the Messiah War cross-over, which is the sequel to Messiah CompleX. The first new mutant birth since the house of M (whereby the mad Scarlet Witch’s “No more mutants” dream became a reality) things have been crazy. Cable’s stuck in the future, Bishop’s tracking him down and Cyclops is attempting to protect the future of the mutant race from those that want her for their own ends. So the X-Men’s leader orders something drastic and sends X-Force on a time-travelling adventure after Cable and the youngen.
The prologue is written by Christopher Yost and Craig Kyle with art by Mike Choi and goes on sale on March 25. Then it’s onto Part 2 in Cable #13 on sale on April 1, followed by Part 3 in April 22’s X-Force #14 by Yost, Kyle and artist Clayton Crain. Below are a few text-free preview pages of the Prologue. They look gorgeous.
This trailer was supposed to go live on-line (after being released with prints of sci-fi re-make The Day The Earth Stood Still) yesterday. However, I looked everywhere and couldn’t find it, until now. (Then I realised that due to the time difference between the U.S and Oz, I was too eager) So, here’s the latest trailer (not the one shown at Comic-Con this year) for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, opening May 1 next year. It has elements from the Origin comic series, plus guest stars such as fan faves Gambit, Deadpool, the Blob, White Queen and more. Sabretooth is in it too, of course, and it looks like Liev Schrieber was a good choice. So sit back and enjoy. Marvel really are making some fine films these days.

Well, this is exciting. The first (shaky) look at the Wolverine trailer, right here. If you can move past the bad English, the blog may very well be the first place to see this. The film, entitled X-Men Origins: Wolverine is a spin-off set in the X-Men movie universe and a prequel starring the hairy Canadian, played again by Hugh Jackman. It’s not released until May next year but the trailer may be enough until then. With a look at the Weapon X programme that gave him an adamantium skeleton, to his days in WW II and meetings with other Marvel characters such as Blob, Deadpool (if Ryan Reynolds can’t play The Flash at least he still gets to play one red-suited comic character), Gambit (for whom the greatest cheers were reserved for), Emma Frost and old pal Sabretooth, played by a surprisingly mean Liev Schrieber. I’m sure the film will end with someone asking him to meet “some guy named Xavier,” or perhaps it will even tie in to the upcoming Magneto spin-off. My greatest hope? That Captain America will appear in the WWII scenes. Go here for a full cast list.
Those Image Comics founders sure know how to draw. Without those mad pencilling skills, there’s no way they ever could’ve jumped Marvel’s ship back in 1992 and bring a whole lotta fans with them. Silvestri is one of those original rebels and his pencils on his own creations like Witchblade, Cyberforce and The Darkness (also a freakily good console game) are things of equal beauty and horror. He has returned to Marvel over the last few years to perty up the pages of X-Men, primarily during the Messiah CompleX series.
The Art of Marc Silvestri book covers the Top Cow CEO’s whole career and also features commentaries by fellow artists Dave Finch, Brandon Peterson, Billy Tan, Mike Choi and Michael Broussard.
The full colour 96 page hard cover book goes on sale August 20, for $US29.99. It’d make a great coffee table book for art lovers or fans of superheroes and villains and the tight bodies that they all possess. See what I mean by checking out a few luscious pages below.
