Captain America’s Film Costume

OK, so now the actual look of Cap’s film costume has shown up on-line, and yes, they do look like some artistic wizardry put to standard licensed superhero poses, but with Chris Evans in the suit and Joe Johnston (Jurasic Park 3, The Wolfman) directing, this might just be yet another awesome film in Marvel’s cinematic array. The costume looks unsurprisingly like The Ultimates version, and there’ll also be a different WWII version in the film too. Look for it when Steve Rogers flings his shield on July 22 2011, with Hugo Weaving as baddie The Red Skull. Sidekick Bucky, love interest Peggy Carter and Samuel L. Jackson as superspy Nick Fury will also show up. See more costume pics here.

Cap’s Covered

There’s a fair amount of hype about the return of Steve Rogers, AKA Captain America this week. In Captain America Reborn #1, writer Ed Brubaker and artist Bryan Hitch (The Ultimates) present Rogers’ return as classic enemy Red Skull makes nefarious plans. The covers of the first issue are truly striking, as you can see below, with covers by Bryan Hitch, Joe Quesada, Alex Ross and John Cassaday.

FF On iTunes & Cap For Free

FF World's Greatest HeroesThe 2006-debuting Fantastic Four cartoon wasn’t bad from what I saw. With an anime flavour and heaps of guest stars, it was pretty light and enjoyable. Now you can download the entire season (6.45 gbs) for just under $20 on iTunes, or you can watch episodes for free on Marvel.com here.

While you’re surfing, you may also like to check out the 8 page Captain America Reborn: Prelude, which sets the stage for the return of Steve Rogers in this week’s Captain America Reborn. It’s free from Marvel’s Digital Comics Unlimited, and is an exclusive one-shot written by series writer Ed Brubaker with art by Luke Ross. You can also check out the Reborn Hub, which feature more Cap-related freebies, such as comics and a trailer.

Captain America Reborn: Prelude

Captain America Returns?

CaptainAmerica_Reborn_01_RossCoverTwo and a half years ago Marvel killed Captain America, AKA Steve Rogers in #25 of his title, and received mainstream attention, with Marvel head honcho Joe Quesada doing his bit to promote the issue on radio and TV. Now he’s back, maybe. In Rogers’ place, his one time sidekick Bucky Barnes stepped up as the new Cap, with a new costume, and writer Ed Brubaker really made it work. So, do we really need Steve Rogers back? According to an article in the Daily News that’s exactly what we’re getting anyway. Reborn is a new 5 ish mini that Marvel have kept shrouded in secrecy, much like they did with his death, and will be the triumphant return of Captain America. But which Captain America? Steve Rogers? Joe Q doesn’t mention his name in the interview. What he does say is it will be the return of the “original Captain America.” Some may see that as Isaiah Bradley, who was introduced in 2003’s Truth: Red, White and Black mini-series as the African American test subject of the Super Soldier formula and has hardly been seen since. Also controversial is Marvel’ decision to release Captain America #600 (not the return issue BTW) today, on a Monday, instead of the usual Wednesday, without Marvel giving retailers enough info to order the issue in advance. Below are a few pages from the landmark 600th issue, courtesy of Joe Q’s new Cup O’ Joe series, which has just moved from MySpace to CBR.

UPDATED: Nope, Steve Rogers is coming back in Reborn #1, which arrives on July 1.  From Marvel’s fresh off the press, press release:

It was the shot heard ‘round the world. Following the most shocking and controversial event in comic book history – the assassination of Captain America in the pages of Captain America #25 – neither the heroes of the Marvel Universe nor the rest of the world have quite come to grips with this most traumatic of losses. From the moment he was taken from us until today, one fact has proven to be true: the world still needs Captain America . And now, the time has come! At long last, the legend, the hero, is back.  Steve Rogers makes his triumphant return from the grave in the publishing event of the year: Captain America Reborn, a five part series from Marvel Comics beginning this July.

Female Bucky Returns?

Another teaser image was released from Marvel yesterday. These images seem to be working, as fanboy tongues get wagging each time. To celebrate the release of Captain America #600 on June 17, this image lays hints as to what’s next. The issue is written by Ed Brubaker, Mark Waid, Roger Stern and Stan Lee. That’s some of the best writers Cap has had over the decades. The art will be supplied by a bunch of people too including Butch Guice, Luke Ross and Howard Chaykin. I knew the character in the promo looked familiar, before I picked it – the female Bucky from the controversial late 1990s Heroes Reborn saga. Perhaps the issue will be an anthology issue with looks at Captain America from different eras, like the current Hulk: Broken Worlds series. Either way, it appears that something big is stirring in Cap’s world, as also evidenced by the 5 issue series entitled Reborn (from Brubaker and Bryan Hitch) that hits in July. That’s all we know for now, as Marvel have only released the white word, “Reborn” on a black background as a teaser for that series. Maybe Steve Rogers will be reborn, or perhaps it an allusion to Heroes Reborn, with the female Bucky teaming up with James Barnes, the original Bucky and current Cap. Who knows?
