The second poster for next year’s Superman film starring Henry Cavill is a surprising turn, and certainly not the heroic look we’re used to, but I like it. I assume those handcuffs are Kryptonian, but even if they’re not, Superman is a law abider, so would just play along anyway.
I really hope this film will be awesome.
This is the first official bit of marketing for next year’s Star Trek sequel to the 2009 re-imagining. I hope the official title is Star Trek: Into Darkness though, rather than Star Trek Into Darkness, as that just sounds rather odd.
It’s a cool poster though, as it focuses on the still unknown bad guy, as played by TV’s Sherlock Holmes Benedict Cumberbatch, rather than the heroic Enterprise crew. The familiar symbol as seen in debris is also reminiscent of the recent Dark Knight trilogy posters.
The first teaser for the film is also set to go online sometime this week.
Two interesting trailers have hit the net recently, and both star Nicholas Hoult (About A Boy, and Beast from X-Men: First Class).
Jack the Giant Slayer is directed by Bryan Singer, who’ll also be directing the First Class sequel based on the classic Days of Future past storyline from the comics, and is out in March.
Warm Bodies looks like a much more novel idea and is open in February. Love can even bring zombies to life. I love that idea. It’s directed by Jonathan Levine, the man behind the great 50/50, and the underrated All The Boys Love Mandy Lane.
Below is the poster and first trailer for next year’s third Iron Man entry starring Robert Downey Jr, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, and Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin. It’s based on the Extremis storyline from the comics from a few years ago, with the added bonus of the Iron Patriot armour. The trailer certainly looks intense and downbeat, rather than the jovial adventuring of the first two films. It also dwells on the destruction of Stark’s mansion for too long, and Pearce’s Aussie voice doing an American monotone reminds me of Hugo Weaving as Mr Smith in The Matrix films.
Speaking of the Armoured Avenger, last week saw the release of Ultimate Comics Iron Man #1 by writer Nathan Edmondson (Grifter, The Activity) and artist Matteo Bufagni. The Demon in the Armor storyline is a four parter and it’s off to a rousing start.
Now this looks surprisingly fun. Hitchcock stars Anthony Hopkins as the greatest director ever (I reckon), and Helen Mirren as his wife Alma, during the making of Psycho. It opens in January.
I’m halfway through watching Marvel’s first foray into anime territory with series devoted to Blade, X-Men, and Wolverine. So far, their Iron Man series is rather good, so I’m looking forward to their latest venture. Official details below.

IRON MAN: RISE OF TECHNOVORE
Marvel Entertainment and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan (SPEJ) announced today the return of iconic Super Hero, Iron Man, to the beloved world of anime in an all-new feature-length film, IRON MAN: RISE OF TECHNOVORE. Produced by Madhouse and currently in production in Japan, the film is slated for release on DVD in the spring of 2013.
Directed by Hiroshi Hamasaki (Shigurui, TEXHNOLYZE) with story by Brandon Auman (The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Iron Man: Armored Adventures), the film explores a confrontation between Iron Man and the villainous Ezekiel Stane, who develops new bio-technology that seemingly outclasses the Iron Man armor. After Stane unleashes a terrorist attack and sets Tony up to take the fall, Iron Man must evade S.H.I.E.L.D.’s man hunt and find a way to clear his name.
Marvel’s Head of Television, Jeph Loeb to reveal more information surrounding Iron Man: Rise of Technovore at New York Comic Con during the Marvel TV Presents Panel on Saturday, October 13 at 4:15pm in Room 1E13.
“Marvel is excited to present an all-new Iron Man adventure featuring the high-tech adrenaline he is known for, in the beautifully rendered anime style of our friends at Madhouse,” said Producer Megan Thomas Bradner. “We’ll get to see familiar Marvel Super Heroes such as War Machine, Nick Fury, Black Widow, Hawkeye and The Punisher, rendered in anime style for the first time. The American release this week of The Avengers DVD/Blu-Ray means they get something who we in Australia, and other countries who got an earlier release, didn’t get – a Joss Whedon commentary. Thankfully, there’s a rundown of all the tidbits from the director here.
I just discovered Screen Junkies thanks to their rather honest Avengers trailer, but it looks like they’ve given such hilarious treatment to many other films.

Last week I saw Resident Evil: Retribution, the latest film in the franchise, and it was one of the worst films I’ve ever seen. A bunch of characters with no backstories, and a series of fight scenes does not make a good action film. I suggest writer/director Paul W.S. Anderson looks to The Expendables for inspiration because at least those films have great fun and zest with the genre.
Well, this trailer for Resident Evil 6 looks much better than the film. The game is out next week.
The second trailer (the first one was way back in December) of Peter Jackson’s first entry in the new prequel Lord of the Rings trilogy has arrived. The Hobbit opens in December, and today is also the 75th anniversary of J.R.R Tolkien’s novel.
There seems to be quite a few fairytale meets “reality” films these days, although this delayed film starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton as the adventurous siblings seems more like the over the top shenanigans of Van Helsing (remember that 2004 film?) rather than something like Troll Hunter (an awesome Norwegian film).
Hansel and Gretel is out in January.
Hot Toys, makers of super detailed action figures have released a 6 minute short film with their Batman toys in action. It’s cool and rather whacky and features Commissioner Gordon, Batman, Joker and Bane. Watch Batman: The Dark Knightfall below and drool over more of their great work here.

It’s that rare film that actually manages, at times, to capture the intense battles and overblown dialogue that superhero comics can do so well, but if it focused on Batman, Bane and Catwoman, there’d be a greater depth at work.”

We announced back in April that an all-new Batman digital comic book would be coming soon. Today, we’re excited to reveal that the first chapter from LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT will be released tomorrow, followed by new chapters out every Thursday. Taking place outside of DC COMICS – THE NEW 52 continuity, the new series features several stand-alone stories by various creators that chronicle different cases handled by The Dark Knight.

#0s will be stand-alone stories. “Some issues will tell the origins of a character or a team, or in some case where an origin has already been told, they will fill in the blanks in terms of questions readers may have about the New 52 DC Universe,” said Bob Harras, DC Entertainment Editor-in-Chief. “Each of these issues promises to reveal something surprising.”

This week, the studio revealed it tapped “Gangster Squad” scribe Will Beall to revive “Justice League,” which WB unplugged in 2008, and hired Michael Goldenberg (one of the many writers of “Green Lantern”) to pen “Wonder Woman.”
Those projects now join in development films based on the Flash, Aquaman, Green Arrow, Lobo, the Suicide Squad and Shazam. DC and WB are also facing a decision on how to reboot Batman once “The Dark Knight Rises” completes Christopher Nolan’s take on the caped crusader, featuring Christian Bale in the cowl.
