Hip Heroes

Superheroes can be interpreted any number of striking ways, especially superhero teams. For example, the Justice League by Dan Hipp, and his version of Batman’s rogues gallery,

the Guardians of the Galaxy and New Warriors from Patricio Oliver,

and finally Franco Spagnolo’s Justice League.

All these great artists’ blogs are worth checking out for more impressive pics of pop culture interpretations.

Great Supergirl Gallery

Supergirl has had perhaps more incarnations than any other comics character, all with different visual interpretations. Abduzeedo have a nifty post on the character with pics from different artists, centred on the current incarnation of the classic superheroine – Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin.

Scott Pilgrim Gallery

I really need to get the Scott Pilgrim DVD. It looks like it’s filled to the top with some sure to be amazing extras. Anyway, here’s a great selection of Scott Pilgrim art inspired by the film and the Bryan Lee O’Malley comic from Oni Press which inspired it. Some of my faves are below.

Potential Superman Sequel and Costume

There’s no mention of where the writers got this info from, but it’s an interesting read nonetheless. Essentially it’s what Bryan Singer’s plans were for the sequel to Superman Returns. It certainly seems much more action packed and features Brainiac and removes (if harshly) the whole bad idea of Superman’s son, but I’m still glad this film wasn’t made. Read the article here.

Also on the net are more costume concepts from another Supes film attempt, this time for the J.J Abrams version, though they may have carried over to Singer’s film too in the early stages. Steve Johnson released those Nic Cage/Tim Burton costume test pics a while ago and now you can see them and more recent ones at his Facebook page.

Great Film Posters By Tomasz Opasinski

Ah, the simplicity of design. Polish artist Tomasz Opasinski works for a few advertising agencies in America. Below are some great examples of non-commercial posters he’s created that just use one quote and one design element to capture the tone of the subject. See more of his great work here.

Do It Yourself Doodler

Want artistic inspiration or a quirky creative exercise? David Jablow’s site is a great place to begin. Using a simple template as a springboard for some wild and intricate drawings Jablow has created dozens of original sketches, and you can too. It reminds me of the classic Aussie TV show Mr. Squiggle, but it would be great to see other artists works shown, or different printable templates too.

Thanks to Abduzeedo for the heads up.

Epic Star Wars Gallery

One of the growing number of sites I visit daily, Coolvibe is a great place to see awesome art from all over the place. Now up is a collection of 40 Star Wars pics from games, parodies and promos. Feed your eyeballs right here.

The always excellent superhero-costume-loving website, Project: Rooftop has some great stuff up now, including Iron Man’s streamlined new duds, as seen in the new Invincible Iron Man #25, some Thor sketches from Chris Samnee’s upcoming mini-series, and a hefty array of entries for their Canary on the Catwalk costume re-design competition.

Papercraft Pop Culture

Check out a great post on Abduzeedo showing some amazing paper creations including some musical instruments, vehicles and stuff from both Stars (Wars and Trek). It must take tremendous skill and patience to create these beauties.
